A Sunday wonder!

Ok, so I've made a deal with myself. Only 15 minutes to come online to blog about today. Nothing else. After that, it's back to work. I've planned my work and gonna work my plan. Yup!

Today was just awesome. Went to Teluk Intan for a short visiting trip. Sort of a small road trip as well. Turned in late last night cos we siblings just couldn't stop talking hehe. A good 'siblings bonding time' that was, until appa came and switched off the lights. Am pretty sure it was past 2am. Had to wake up early.

Left at 9.30am...delays. Took the old road instead of the highway. Still regretting that we forgot the camera :( Beautiful sceneries...paddy fields stretched out as far as the eyes could see, oil palm plantations, friendly people just mingling with each other worrilessly (am not sure if that is even a word :p)..it was just beautiful. Not to mention, it was surprising to see a small town that crowded. Probably cos the school holidays just begun.

We headed for our relative's house. They had no idea we were coming. That's how we like it. So that no one waits for us...expectations...arriving on time...Very impromptu. Oh, the joy on their faces when they saw us...priceless! Especially when they saw appa, since appa had stayed with them for a bit when appa was much younger. They insisted we have lunch. I guess our convincing skills aren't as good as theirs (we had already taken lunch before coming in!).

They were living in the estates previously but had moved out after uncle retired. Appa suggested that we go back to the old place and we did. It was an awesome trip. We drove into the oil palm estate, accompanied by a steady narration of history of the place and the people who used to be there. Apparently, anything left behind by the people who worked there was not removed as it had historical value such as the word 'Registered Office' instead of 'Registration Office'. Pretty cool! Ah, if only I had the camera *sigh*

Then, we stopped at the middle of the estate...it was all quiet, calm, breathtaking. As uncle said, you would never find a life like that anywhere else. After being shown around, we stopped by a bakery where we could see how bread was being made. Saw the huge ovens they use to make so many different types of bread. It was amazing!

We returned shortly after cos we had to rush back for my cousin's engagement. Tiring journey indeed! Plans changed of course. Amma just told me that grandma had made idli for dinner :9 So, amma and appa would be leaving for Sg. Siput in a while. We'll be going to grandma's house as I've still got some unfinished work for college tomorrow.

Today's Highlights!

Today has been rather eventful. Don't know why but I thought that I should blog about it.

• 9am classes were cancelled so followed amma around to get some errands done. Happy to see grandma after a while.
• Gently reminded by life's lessons that when you feel beautiful inside, you naturally glow on the outside.
• Witnessed a mini accident - watched a man fall off his bike. Don't know how it happened. For a moment, I thought that his head got disattached from his body! I saw his helmet roll across the road - I imagined the worst. Many stopped to help. Caring people indeed.
• Noticed that Greentown Business Centre has many 'No Entry' signs. Rather inconvenient.
• Had a rather interesting conversation with my lecturer.
• Shared murukku and atchu murukku with my lecturers and fellow A-levels friends. Sharing is caring! Didn't make them myself though :p
• Got a taste of free cookies - we were the only ones left in the restaurant. Satisfying!
• Put the creative part of me to work - used chalk to decorate our bulletin board at college. Fun, especially when you have friends right by your side to join in.
• Caught up with the latest college gossip. Apparently, my classmates and I are pretty left behind hehe Good laughs! Least expected source of information :p
• Terrible migraine. Ear ache, felt like vomiting. Grandma had Panadol. Took them. Came home. Had a good shower. It slowly subsided.
• Helped paati hit a nail into the table side so that she could hang a cloth/curtain around it, serving as a little cupboard below.
• Watched 'Seventeen Again' with sis on Youtube. No, not the one with Zac Efron in it. This was about a girl's divorced grandparents turning 17. Pretty cool.
• Got a call from appa to check on bro's maths. Exams coming up for him and I've got to make sure he does his best.

Right. I guess that should do it. Got to go. Duty calls!

Thaali meal

So what is a Thaali meal you may be wondering. This is especially for you Michelle akka ;)

Well, it is an Indian cuisine - rice served along with other dishes of your choice such as rasam, thairu (yogurt), puli (pickle), curry, etc. It is all served in one big plate or tray with the dishes in smaller trays around the rice. I had my first go at Kalai's Curry House. Here is a review by IpohChai.com - not about the meal but the restaurant itself.

Married Indian women have a long standing tradition of tying the 'thaali' around their neck. It is a yellow string that is tied by the husband on the day of their wedding. The thaali has numerous designs depending on the customs of the groom's family. The various dishes offered in a thaali meal reflect the different ornaments strung on the thaali, hence the name given to the meal.

Justice Must Be Done!

I have not done justice to this blog of mine. I am so sorry, dear blog, for abandoning you. Remember how we started of? It was after SPM and I was venturing out figuring stuff. You were one of my little experiments. Had to be one of the more motivating ones =)

It has been more than 4 months now. So much has happened.

1. Play - 4, 5th July
The Teenage Black Box was awesome. A wonderful experience. Sis and I blogged about it here and uploaded videos, too.

2. Musical Variety Show - 25th July
Conducted by the Anderson Premier Military Band. Attended with sis, her friend, her bro, n my bro :) Wonderful showcase of talent.

3. MSLS '09 - 8th, 9th August
Found out about the Malaysian Student Leaders Summit after the registration was closed. A friend encouraged me to keep trying. I got in! Thought provoking. Met many ambitious young people. Definitely worth my time.

4. ETC Prize-giving - 12 April

Did not attend previous events like this. Made an exception this time. I had wonderful tuition teachers and I owe part of my achievement to them. Was given the opportunity to give a speech. What a day!

5. Nanban event - 6th June
An evening with the Prime Minister. Held in Nikko Hotel. Awarded certificate for my achievement in SPM. Got to know many other students. Young people who have come a long way. Their proud parents. It was amazing. Thanks to my uncle who drove my friend, her mother and me back and forth.

6. School Prize-giving - 1 July
Memories of school life flooded in. It was great to meet up with some of my friends. Felt honoured to be up on stage, receiving those awards for (again!) my achievement in SPM. Loved the little 'photo session' my friends and I had after the event.

7. Family get-together - 26 Sept
Relatives from US were down. Got to see my little cousin for the first time ^^) Prepared a slide show that took us months to complete for the little gathering. Happiness :))) Whole family was invited for dinner later on. Was introduced to 'thaali' meal. Good food.

8. BIRTHDAY - 17 Sept
A very meaningful day. Didn't do anything extravagant. I was content.

• Earlier, amma had bought me a cake to share with my classmates. Didn't have a lighter so had to blow an invisible candle!
• Atthai got my friends and I lunch - didn't want the same mamak food again. Managed to sneak up the food to the classroom ;p Wonderful chicken rice.
• Sis bought me this beautiful purple blouse :) Wore it the whole of that day.
• Had dinner - bread with potato curry hehe (it sounded fancier on the menu) - with my grandaunt who shared the same birthday. She made me pudding and custard. Shared it with my friends. Delicious!
• Dropped by my grandparents' house to visit chittappa, chitti and the little guy who had just arrived from US.
• Had so many warm wishes, calls and gifts. Love you guys :) Each and every one of you made my day.

The above are just a few highlights. Dear blog, I know that my schedule is more packed now. I many not be able to blog as often but, I will try. Take care. I will return!!
